Prepared & Willing

I love the peacefulness that fills my home between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30pm. My girls have gone up to their rooms for the night. One will be snuggled in bed, hugging her pink owl, and quietly talking herself to sleep. The other will be engrossed in the latest book club’s selection. The house that hummed very busily throughout the day is now filled with calmness.

This is my time to prepare. I’ve learned over the past 14 years of managing my home that preparation is not to be dismissed. If I can get ahead of tomorrow, it will be a better day. Completing a few simple task the night before, sets my family and I up for success the next day.

God works the same way. He never does anything without first being prepared. He expects us to be prepared also.

THE BIBLE SAYS:

Paul writes to Titus in Titus 3:1 “Be prepared for and willing to do any upright and honorable work.”

and

Proverbs 31:18-AMP

She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night.

MY THOUGHTS:

Some people may not see ordinary household chores, such as cleaning and organizing, preparing lunches, and planning meals as upright and honorable work. BUT I DO. God blessed me with a wonderful husband, and I am honored to take care of him. He also blessed me with two beautiful daughters, and I feel blessed that He chose me to be their mother and take care of them. I do believe that it is my responsiblity to be prepared and to be willing to do the little things that make tomorrow a better day. No level of service to others is insignificant or unworthy, and I am a firm believer that serving others starts within our own homes.

I’ve found ways to make preparing for tomorrow enjoyable. For example, while folding laundry and laying out clothes, I listen to my favorite play lists filled with Christian songs I love. While picking up the rooms throughout our home I pray short prayers over them. While packing lunches and snacks for the next day, I sip my favorite Chamomile tea and thank God for the blessings I received today. By the time I’m done not only am I prepared for tomorrow, but the presence of God is strong within my home. Not only have I physically prepared, but I have also spiritually prepared my home for whatever tomorrow brings.

God has blessed us all with areas in our lives where we must be prepared and willing to do good works. I can easily apply this to my career, to my volunteer work, and to the church. We must approach life prepared spiritually, mentally, and physically, and we must be willing to do what God has prepared for us, knowing that if He has prepared it for us to complete, that it serves a good purpose.

If you want your tomorrow to be successful, you must begin preparing today.

Are there areas within your life that you are struggling with simply because you’re unprepared?

Are there areas where you know you should be more willing to complete the work, but for whatever reason fight resistance?

PRAY THIS PRAYER:

Father,

I pray that I would be prepared for and willing to do any upright and honorable work You have prepared for me. Father, show me ways that I can be more prepared as a wife and a mother, because I desire to serve You and my family well. Father, allow me to see and taste my gain. Give me the energy and endurance to keep pushing forward until my work is done.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

  1. Thank you so much for this devotional. I remember those same feelings when my oldest son at 21 years old was killed when he was walking on a Sunday morning by a young driver who had fallen asleep behind the wheel. It was such a difficult time but God, family and wonderful women of God helped me through this. My husband stood in the gap and prayed when I was so overcome with grief. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I look forward to reading these every morning! Yvonne
